Maria was introduced to the game of golf by her parents Melville and Carolyn. Her father Mel is a golf professional and taught Maria the game of golf. She was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in the U.S.Virgin Islands. Her home course was Mahogany Run Golf Resort home of the famous "Devil's Triangle". She started playing golf at the age of eight and won the club championship at the age of twelve. Maria's playing career in golf continued with competing on the AJGA Tour and local Caribbean tournaments. She earned a full golf scholarship to play for Florida International University in Miami, FL.
Maria graduated early with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management. Her dream was to play professionally so she competed on the Futures Tour and Golf Coast Tour. Maria has worked at some of the premier golf facilities in the country- including TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and PGA National in Pam Beach Gardens, FL. She has also worked on her game with the leaders in golf instruction including David Leadbetter Golf Academy, Dr. Rick Jensen, and of course her father Mel.
After chasing the dream of playing on the LPGA Tour had run its course, Maria decided to focus on teaching golf. She utilizes everything that she has learned over the years during her playing career and combines it with the extensive training program offered by the LPGA. Maria has been playing golf for over 35 years, has been teaching for over 25 years, and is a Class A Member of the LPGA.
